A Shorten Labor Government will invest $500,000 towards developing the first stage of the Elwood College Phoenix Centre.
This election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government which will restore the Liberals’ education cuts and build the schools our kids deserve, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos. We need real change, because more of the same isn’t good enough.
Elwood College has completed a master plan for the development of its Phoenix Centre, with a view to upgrading its sporting facilities as well as its much-loved Phoenix Theatre.
As the outdoor sport courts at Elwood College are unlit and exposed to the weather, they have limited utility in the evening and are only appropriate for a limited range of sports.
Labor’s commitment will allow Elwood College to construct undercover court facilities with sound screens and lights. This investment will see students at Elwood College and the local community now have access to a more flexible resource, available for use over extended hours and a broader range of sports.
Moreover, if a Shorten Labor Government is elected, Elwood College will receive an extra $860,000 for teaching and learning, and local schools in Macnamara will receive an extra $11 million over the first three years.
Federal Labor is committed to reversing the Morrison Government’s $14 billion cuts to public schools, so that every kid has the best start in life.
Quotes attributable to Josh Burns, Labor candidate for Macnamara:
“Australia deserves better than the current Liberal Government, which is hopelessly divided on the issues that matter. Schools like Elwood College need a progressive government that gets things done. We need a Shorten Labor Government for fairness in Australia.”
“Students at public schools across Macnamara, including Elwood College, deserve the best start in life. That includes access to the best sporting facilities. Only a Labor Government will deliver these new courts. Unlike the Liberals who plan to spend hundreds of billions of dollars in handouts for the top end of town, Labor has a plan to deliver better schools.”
“After six years of Liberal cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready.”
“End the chaos. Vote for change. Vote for Labor.”
