Election Commitment

ALBANESE GOVERNMENT DELIVERING FOR THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN MACNAMARA
A re-elected Albanese Government will make a landmark investment of $18 million in the Jewish Arts Quarter (JAQ) to support the creation of this transformative cultural and community hub for both the Jewish community and broader public.
This funding will enable JAQ to deliver a world-class, multi-purpose precinct focused on Jewish life, arts, culture, education and history within the Elsternwick Cultural Precinct. It will house the Jewish Museum of Australia, the Kadimah Jewish Cultural Centre and National Library alongside the Melbourne Holocaust Museum and Sholem Aleichem College.
For decades, the Jewish community in Melbourne have contributed to the social fabric of the state, and the JAQ will stand as a beacon of multiculturalism, right in the heart of Elsternwick.
The precinct will also include a co-working office space for community organisations and non-for-profits, function spaces for celebrations, and creative studios for musicians and artists.
This election commitment will bring this landmark vision to life – creating a destination for not only the Jewish community to come together, but to demonstrate to the broader public the story of our multiculturalism.
This landmark project is supported by the Victorian Government and is part of the City of Glen Eira’s Elsternwick Cultural Precinct.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
